This is why we have decided to interview health professionals and medical students who are making waves in other spheres in order to inspire and enlighten medical student about opportunities outside the chosen field. Fun fact Jislof always wanted to study medicine and his role models in fashion are Steven Onoja and Blake Scott.

PENDICAL’S INTERVIEW SESSION

Hi, Jislof. I am Aramide Bhadmus. Can you kindly introduce yourself?
I’m Oni Oluwabunmi Joshua, a Medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University, a Fashion enthusiast and a brand influencer.

When did you realize you wanted to go into fashion?
Right from when I was much younger, I’ve always loved to dress well and look very good. It’s my passion and I’ll love to do it professionally after school even though I’ve started already.

  • LOL, So you are one of them that had it from childhood?
You can say that again. 😄

Delving into fashion, how did your family react to it and do you get support from them?
Initially my parents were like , it’ll distract me from my medical career and all , but I told them not to worry that I’ll  do my best in both areas , and by God’s grace I’m doing fine and they are fine with it already

What inspires your style?
I’m actually an inspiration to myself, I know where I wish to be in the nearest future in the fashion world. Nevertheless I still have some people I look up to that inspire me.

Who are your role models, both in fashion and medicine?
My role models in Fashion are Steven Onoja and Blake Scott. Then in the a Medical line, I don’t really have a role model but almost every Medical student looks up to Ben Carson.

Have you always wanted to study medicine and why Medicine?

Yes, I’ve always wanted to study medicine right from childhood. I really admired Doctors and wanted to be one. 😌

How is medical school generally for you?
Medical school is quite very demanding, but it’s also fun, I get to know the atieology and the pathophysiology of various diseases 😃. I also have awesome class mates and colleagues.

How do you balance medicine and fashion?

I try to manage my time very well, I do most of my readings at night. Then shoot during the weekends.

Does your fashion life affect your academic life negatively? If not, how does it affect your academic life positively?
Actually, my fashion life does not have any significant effect on my academics, I just have more work to do. Need to create more time to study.

You must be getting a lot of attention from the ladies, how do you manage that?
Yeah, actually. I also love to make new friends but then I’m in a relationship already.

Which branch of Medicine will you most likely specialize in?
I’ll love to be a Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Have you ever thought of starting your own clothing line?
Yes, I have.

Are you currently an ambassador for any brand/company?
Yes.

Which brand/company would you love to work with?
Any big brand that’ll bring very big money. 😌

If you had to pick between medicine and fashion, what would it be?
Ermmmmm. This is kinda hard because I have always wanted to study medicine and I love both Medicine and Fashion even though I enjoy fashion than medicine. 😊

What are your plans for the near future?
I want to be a very successful doctor as well as a fashion Icon world wide.

What do you advice fellow medical students out there?
I know medical school is so demanding, strenuous and sometimes might be frustrating, when you have so much to read within a short period of time, when your time table doesn’t even allow you to have little time to chill around and have fun 😢. But then, I encourage us all to be steadfast and determined. The end justifies the means. It’s all going to be worth it at the end.
Don’t give up. The beginning is always the hardest.

PENDICAL an educational weblog creates a platform for medical personnel/practitioners including medical students to share inspiring stories, lifestyles, and resources for medical personnel/practitioners or anyone aspiring to be a physician thereby encouraging and promoting diversity in lifestyle, mindset, thoughts and experience among medical personnel and medical students. PENDICAL started out, like many realities, a dream. It is a weblog whose contributors are medical personnel. In a most profound way, medicine and health meet art in the realm of writing. What we seek to achieve cannot be summarized into bullet points, but if through the pieces herein someone’s path is more illuminated or another is inspired to reach beyond its ‘limits’, if doubts are cleared from this mind or the spirit of another are lifted after a long day, PENDICAL would have served well in the line of duty. Our core values are creativity, excellence, truth, and passion.
